Outside Wire: Friday

Bears

Bears vs. Cardinals

Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune broke down the Bears’ recent success with the screen play. Some of the success stems from the lack of success from most everything else. “When the run is struggling like that, there are some things you can do with screens, some quick passes, some long handoffs. Just get the ball out of your hands quickly to help the offensive linemen … Because they’re awful. Have I told you guys how much I miss Ryan Clady,” Jay Cutler said. OK. I made the last part up, but I’m sure he’s thinking it. Chicago Bears short passing game one area that’s impressive [Chicago Tribune]

Cubs

I tweeted one of these things yesterday, but I feel it’s worth repeating. I was confident with John Grabow on the mound last season and I’d pay $10 million for that same comfort — hey, it’s not my money, what do I care. Some people, like those at FanGraphs, don’t think I’m going to have that sense of calm next season. And if Grabow is good again, and still brings me comfort, the Cubs probably paid too much for it. On the bright side, the Cubs got something for Aaron Heilman. Be on the look out for a dig at the Grabow signing at the end. Cubs get something for Heilman [FanGraphs]
