Tampa Bay, Boston, Oakland … and the Cubs: When it comes to prospects, the Cubs aren’t often in such well-respected farm systems.
But according to Baseball Prospectus, the Cubs are the 8th best organization, surrounded by teams like the Red Sox and Rays. This is quite a jump from last season, when the Cubs were ranked 26th in baseball. And, it’s not all about shortstop Starlin Castro either.
Kevin Goldstein, who puts the organizational rankings together for BP, isn’t as high on Castro as some. So while the buzz around the Cubs’ shortstop prospect grows, Goldstein remains steady on his outlook for Castro: An every day shortstop, but not a star. And he’s definitely not Hanley Ramirez.
Still, he likes Castro enough to think highly of the Cubs system as a whole. He ranks Josh Vitters as the Cubs’ top prospect, and Castro right behind him.
Without taking too much from the subscription site, the Cubs had some prospects “step up,” including Brett Jackson and the 2008 draft class.

these guys will all manage to be crappy in a cub uniform like every other cubs prospect
I’m going to give the benefit of the doubt, at least for now. It’s been a while since someone, other than the Cubs, have thought this highly of their prospects.
