As the NHL season restarts, Blackhawks Thursday wraps up the Olympics, the trade deadline, and more.
Outside of Chicago, I don’t know whether people know (or care) about the Blackhawks’ franchise-wide turnaround, but everyone who woke up in a hotel on Tuesday got a chance to read about it on the front page of USA Today’s Sports section.
As for the Olympics, here’s what some had to say about the Blackhawks’ participants:
- Besides Ryan Miller, Jonathan Toews is everyone’s new favorite player. He was named best forward of the games; Puck Daddy’s Greg Wyshynski says he “proved to be Canada’s most versatile and effective forward;” Canadian coach Mike Babcock says his favorite player is “whoever’s playing on Jonathan Toews’ line;” plus, he won the gold medal. Solid two weeks.
- Patrick Kane: Pretty good.
- Marian Hossa and Tomas Kopecky were so effective, together, on the Slovakian line that some asked if Joel Quenneville should place them on the same line. He didn’t. But considering how little impact Kopecky was supposed to have, he played well alongside Hossa and Marian Gaborik.
- Duncan Keith rediscovered his “defensive solidarity.”
- Things didn’t go as well for Brent Seabrook.
The Cam Barker deal turned out to be the team’s big move:
- The Blackhawks did make one minor move.
- And here is TSN’s list of all the trades.
- Though, twitterers are upset the Blackhawks didn’t trade for people they’ve heard of, like Ryan Miller.
